Unity Place in Milton Keynes proudly announced its collaboration with Green Beam to host an Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Summit in May 2024. This summit aimed to provide a platform for businesses to learn, share, and implement sustainable practices to shape a brighter future for all. Unity Place stood as a beacon of sustainability in Milton Keynes, embodying a commitment to environmentally conscious operations and fostering a sustainable ethos.

As a testament to this dedication, Unity Place was chosen as the ideal venue for the ESG Summit. “Sustainability was at the core of the foundation of Unity Place,” explained Rhodri Adrian, Food & Beverage Director. "Restaurant Associates had published their transition plan, a roadmap to achieving net zero by 2030. At Unity Place, we embedded this strategy into our daily operations by constantly reviewing our supply chain, revisiting our recipe planning to reduce food waste, and working with partners such as TOAST, local street food vendors including Bandit Bird, and coffee brand Change Please to improve the circular economy."

Executive Head Chef Nicholas Male created a low carbon food print menu for the summit, aligning with Unity Place's commitment to reducing environmental impact. The menu offered a variety of plant-based options, carefully crafted to minimize carbon footprint while remaining flavorful.

"After careful planning and innovation, we were excited to unveil our brand-new low carbon food print menu," said Chef Nicholas Male. "This menu not only showcased our culinary expertise but also underscored our dedication to sustainability."

Following the conference, guests were invited to the Unity Sky Lounge to enjoy a selection of non-alcoholic cocktails and low-alcohol beer from Toast Brewing, which created award-winning craft beer brewed with surplus fresh bread that would otherwise have been wasted. This networking event provided an opportunity for attendees to mingle, exchange ideas, and forge connections in a relaxed setting.

The ESG Summit, organized by the beam association, promised a day filled with insightful discussions, interactive sessions, and expert speakers. Attendees were able to gain valuable insights into measuring and influencing delegate travel, improving waste management practices, and driving organizational change for a sustainable future.

"Our agenda was designed to inform, educate, and inspire attendees to embrace sustainable practices and make a positive impact," said Louisa Watson, ESG Director at beam. "We were excited to partner with Unity Place, a venue that shared our vision for a greener, more sustainable world."

The summit featured break-out sessions covering topics such as accreditation, effective communication of green credentials, B-Corp and social impact, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (ED&I). "We were honored to host the ESG Summit with beam and welcome participants to Unity Place," said Laura Johns, Business Development Manager at Unity Place. "Together, we paved the way for a more sustainable future and created lasting change."
